WHat to include in your logo brief

In order for me to design the perfect logo for your brand, I require a brief that will help me understand your vision. I require the following information in your brief, click on the icon next to each item if you are unsure what the item refers to or what format to send it in.

1. Your company/project background

If this has not been defined in our initial meeting, please send through background on your company/project

2. Your target market

Describe who the target market is for your brand, referring to demographics like the following:

Age range
Gender
Interests/career
Other relevant information

Why is this important?
Without properly defining your audience, I may start designing the logo for your company with a look and feel aimed at women, when in actual fact your target market is men in their 40s, interested in golf.

3. The wording of your logo & logo variations

Please provide the specific wording you would like to be used on your logo and the variations thereof.

As an example, Paper Planery has three different logo variations with three different wordings:

“Paper Planery Est. 2018”
“Paper Planery”
A Paper Plane icon without any wording.

The first one might be used on formal letterheads, the second one on collateral like my email signature and the icon on social media platforms. Not all brands need various logos, however this is something to consider.

4. Your colour preferences

Please provide guidelines for the colours of your logo, i.e. what colours you like, dislike or what specific colours you would like to be used

Why is this important: Giving this guideline can help eliminate things you know you won’t like before I even start. For instance perhaps I like the colour yellow, and you don’t so informing me of that beforehand will avoid any yellow logos in your first logo draft.

5. Samples of logos you love or a moodboard

Please provide samples of logos you would like Paper Planery to use as a reference.

If you are uncertain where you can find samples the following platforms may help:

1. Search Google for logos.
2. Create a board on Pinterest.
3. Send through names of brands you like
4. A sketch may even help if you have some specific ideas!

6. Where will your logo be primarily used

Please provide a guideline as to where your logo will be used.

Why is this important: A design that will be used on as a engraved logo on leather will be a much simpler icon than a logo on a webite. Or a logo that will be printed on stationery such as pens cannot only have a square version, it has to be a long shape to be ledgible.

7. Your typography preferences

Please provide samples of typography you prefer.

If you are uncertain where you can find samples the following platforms may help:

1. Search Google for “typography”.
2. Create a section on  your Pinterest board
